Perhaps the crowning jewel of my dads production career, Sanctuary was his stunning achievement. Both as a writer and a Producer. Written with Tom Kelly, it really hit its mark from an artistic standpoint. Kelly was smashing mainstream super success with Madonnas “Like A Virgin” Hearts’ “Alone” Laupers’ “True Colors” so this Synth Pop masterpiece fell perfectly into place in 1982. The upbeat basslines, the subtle mysterious beckoning lyrics and sophistication was all my Dad had hoped for as a lead single to the Celestium album. Recorded at Preferred Sound, I loved the playbacks of this song straight off the 24 track 2″ tape machine at full volume! This song has been cut a few times, notably Laura Brannigan has a version that also charted well. In late ’82 I was driving to band practice in Seattle and my Dads version of Sanctuary came on the radio. I freaked out!! One of the coolest things ever, and I was so proud for him. From the neon colored smoky dance floors of the 80’s enjoy this pop Usher/ Kelly Classic!
